Top Events & Festivals to Check Out This Summer
Summer is here and in full effect. It’s time to fully whip out your planners and start mapping out which festivals to attend – and award shows to watch. From the Emmys to Comic-Con to the MLB All-Star Game – here are just a few events you might want to keep on your radar.
MLB ALL-STAR GAME
The 2018 MLB All-Star Game will be held in our nation’s capital on July 17th at Nationals Park. After the All-Star roster is revealed, fans will get the chance to select the final players for each league's 32-man roster via the 2018 Camping World MLB All-Star Final Vote. Between the All-Star Game, Homerun Derby and Celebrity Softball Game, there will be plenty of baseball action to catch in DC this summer.
SAN DIEGO COMIC-CON
For you comic book lovers out there, mark July 19th to 22nd on your calendar and get ready to book your flight to San Diego for Comic-Con International. Comic-Con is a must-see event for lovers of comics, movies and science fiction. San Diego Comic-Con gives fans the opportunity to meet and hear from comic creators, science fiction fantasy authors, film and television directors, producers, writers, creators, etc. And if you can’t make it to Comic-Con, stay tuned to BMG’s social channels for updates. We’ll be producing live programming for truTV and IMDb.
The BET Awards is set to air on June 24th at 8:00pm. The networks’ annual award show honors African-Americans and other minorities in the music, acting, producing, and sports industry. With artists such as Kendrick Lamar, Ella Mai, and many other of your favorite artists, we anticipate it will be a night full of enduring fun.
Lollapolloza is a music festival that offers something for everyone. From pop, to rock, to heavy metal, to hip-hop – you name the genre, they’ll have it. Lollapolloza started in Chicago, IL, but has expanded to become an international festival, with iterations in Argentina, Berlin, Brazil, Chile, Paris, and – for the first time ever – Stockholm. That’s right, Sweden, on June 28th and 29th, Lollapolloza is heading to the Swedish city of Gardet. Charles Attal, a Partner at C3 Presents who manages Lollapolloza had this to say about their Swedish expansion: “It takes years of research and planning to determine the right cities to host Lollapalooza, and we never take the decision lightly. With its incredible culture, vibrant music scene and beautiful green spaces, Stockholm proved to be an ideal city to add to our growing international family.” Time to stamp your passport, music lovers.
It’s hard to believe, but awards show season is almost upon us yet again. Things will kick off with the 70th annual Emmy Awards in Los Angeles on September 16th and 17th. Last year, BMG teamed up with IMDb to produce “IMDb Live After the Emmys” – a live, post-Emmy’s special featuring interviews with Emmy winners, pre-show coverage from the red carpet, and a live look inside the Governor’s Ball. Who are you hoping to see claim an Emmy at this year’s show?
TORONTO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL (TIFF)
The Toronto International Film Festival will take place from September 8th to 16th in – where else - Toronto, Canada. Festival organizers have made this year’s event more enticing for attendees. Filmgoers will now be able to screen 4 films with their admission price (instead of 2 in prior years). TIFF has also introduced three-tiered ticket prices at all venues with reserved seats to ensure that a variety of ticket buying options are available. But wait, there's more! TIFF also announced the return of $10 screenings for all the film lovers under 25.
